emesene 1.6.3 - "Uberlândia" has been released!

Another small and fast bugfix update from arielj while emesene 2.0 is being developed:

   * Fixed nick/avatar/personal message problems
   * Support for various new music players
   * Single instance option
   * Small fixes here and there

While downloading this new bugfix release take your time and see how emesene 2.0 developing is going on (if you're not reading the blog, do it!) We need all your support in order to bring our beloved program to a new level

You can cooperate with the emesene team in any way you want:

   * New features
   * Bug fixes/reports
   * Plugins
   * Translations
   * Themes

Print article Jul 02 2010 Need testing for 1.6.3 release

Hi, we have to release version 1.6.3 to fix profile roaming and storing and we need some testing to be sure it's working ok.

What do you have to do?
You have to try SVN version (or PPA when it get's updated with the latest commit) and report these things:
-Are your nick, pm and avatar saved when you log out and log in again?
-Is your avatar downloaded only once? (click on your avatar on the main window and check if one repeated avatar appears after each login or after setting a new avatar)

How to use the svn version?
-Ubuntu and most distros:
1-Download subversion ("sudo apt-get install subversion" on ubuntu-based distros)
2-Do this command:

svn co https://emesene.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/emesene/trunk/emesene emesene

NOTE: "svn" for subversion, "co" for checkout, the svn url, and "emesene" is the name of the folder created, you can change that and you can move to another directory before doing that command to download emesene on a different folder
3-Go to that new folder and double click on emesene file.

Please, don't report other bugs on this thread, only if they are related to the above testing objectives.

If you have problems with repeated avatars, open emesene on a terminal/console and paste here what appears there.

Print article Jun 07 2010 emesene 2 PPA - Ubuntu Lucid Lynx 10.04 (and other Debian based distros too)

Thanks to our mighty hacker bjfs for the brave souls out there there's a brand new package that contains emesene 2.0 BETA latest bits.

WARNING: It's not anywhere near to be finished, it's alpha-beta-gamma software quality, so keep your kittens away and do not install it if you're not ready to mess with your messenger. Some have reported they lost their girlfriends and/or job while trying emesene, so, you've been warned.

If you're brave enough to try it out just:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:bjfs/ppa

Then purge your emesene 1.6.x install (YES, THEY CONFLICT).

Code:

sudo apt-get remove emesene

Finally, update your apt mirrors and install the new software:

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install emesene2

If you're not using Ubuntu, or you do want to try it out without installing, get the source, Luke:
Click here for zip archive with the source code. Does NOT contain a proper msn library
or, with git (with all the stuff you need):

git clone git://github.com/emesene/emesene.git && cd emesene && git submodule init && git submodule update

and for updating, from emesene folder:

hi! remember me? remember this project?

well, I've been busy lately (now I'm an engineer

and this days I started using emesene 2 with the jabber backend so I force myself to fix bugs and improve it.
I started fixing some bugs but I noted that the project was a little stalled on github.

As any project we can't depend on the time or willing to code of one person (not just me, I'm taling about cloud, cando, and all the other people that help regularly), so we need to get more people willing to help us making emesene 2 the best IM client around.

That means that if you can try it, test it, find bugs and hopefully fix them, then you should, and if you want to go an extra mile, please talk about this project wherever you can so we may reach people willing to help us.

right now I fixed some bugs regarding adium themes, loading preferences and extensions, an exception while connection to jabber and some smaller ones. But we can't depend on one coder so if you are willing to help, then jump on board.

any question you have on how to collaborate, leave a comment or go to the forum and make some noise about emesene 2.
