Hi,
I started working in my free time to implement webcam sending with emesene. This is more for the fun of it and for learning new skills, but anyway I'm sharing it with so that you may benefit from it (or simply correct me if you find my approach completely wrong).
This is not a complete patch, it does not send the webcam, but I already made some important steps:
 - Send the request to show your own webcam
 - Acknoleding of acceptance by the other party
 - Opening of a window with video taken from wecam

This means that you have to send the request and it will just show a window where you should see yourself. Beware that this is *HIGHLY* experimental and it *WILL* crash your emesene when closing this window, so don't whine about it, ok?
To run the code you'll need gstreamer-core, gstreamer-base and gstreamer-good.

The patch is applied again SVN revision 1492 (To apply run "patch -p1 < webcam-20080930.patch")

Here is a screenshot of what it looks like. Yep that's me.

Let me know what you think about it!

Thanks for the support!  Smiley

It's almost complete now, I only need to send the data across the network. If there are no major problems by tomorrow there should be a working version of my patches, even though a little "dirty". Once I can get other people to see my webcam I will work on fixing bugs and adding secondary functions (like selecting the webcam, brightness/gamma/other).

Wow! Nice work and thanks for doing that... If you know about that maybe you can solve some bugs for the received webcam before start to make secondary enchacements for the webcams (like the gamma correction and that things) What do you think?

Chhers!

Ok, here is an update, now it's mostly working!
The updated patch is here, it can be applied on top of the latest SVN version (without the old patch applied).

Now invites work in both directions, even though requests by the other user won't initiate correctly the webcam sending. I have tested this with aMSN on the other side and it works, but I didn't have any success with the official MSN client. It could also be because the other end was behind a NAT/firewall, but I'm not sure, it's something I have to investigate further. I don't know if emesene to emesene works, it should be tested...

Anyway not bad for approximatively 4 days of coding!
What I need now (from you) is some logs of webcam sessions where something went wrong (i.e. can't connect) so that I may have a broader use case. (I know that I'm going to regret this, but anyway...)
You can e-mail them to florjan@libero.it (It's my spam box, so no problem publishing it here Wink )

Yes of course I could do that! Actually I think all the webcam section needs some refactoring and cleaning up, I think it was just left this way because it works good enough but there's no time to make it better, so I could fix some bugs in the coming days
